Human Health Major

Why did you choose your major/minor offered from the Human Health department?

I naturally gravitated toward the human health major prior to applying to Emory due to my consistent exposure to the medical field. I appreciated how the major offered a highly interdisciplinary approach to learning about public and global health while providing experiential learning opportunities. Being a Human Health major affirmed for me that public health changes are how we can achieve health equity and ensure that all people are receiving the quality healthcare that they deserve. My classes reinforced how deeply bioethical issues are intrinsically connected to equity and social justice, provided me with practical frameworks for analyzing ethical healthcare dilemmas, and as a whole provided me with theoretical understanding and practical approaches to addressing complex ethical issues in healthcare. Through both personal and professional experiences, the Human Health department prepared me to achieve my professional goals.

If applicable, when you complete your major/minor from the Human Health program, what's next for you after graduation?

I will be pursuing higher education!

What advice do you have for someone considering a major/minor in Human Health at Emory?
I would encourage all potential Human Health majors and minors to try to get to know the Human Health faculty! The professors in this department are such wonderful, impressive, accomplished, and empathetic individuals who have so much wisdom to offer. I’ve learned so much from my Human Health professors from our conversations beyond the classroom and had their unwavering support as I navigated through undergrad and pursued higher education.

What part of the Emory experience do you enjoy the most?
The part of my Emory experience that I enjoyed the most was the connections that I was able to build! Emory introduced me to so many incredible people that I have had the privilege to learn from in and out of the classroom. I’ve gained both lifelong friends and lifelong mentors thanks to Emory and the Human Health department.
